As well as specialising in Fire Risk Assessments, UK Fire Consultants can also undertake Fire Door Inspections at your property.
According to The Grenfell Tower Inquiry in the Phase 1 report; “Fire doors play an essential role in preventing or inhibiting the spread of smoke and toxic gases and in preserving the effective compartmentation of buildings.”
At UK Fire Consultants, we have a team of certified Fire Door Inspectors who have the skills and experiences to meticulously assess every aspect of your fire doors and ensure that they meet all industry standards, and are fully operational, to give you peace of mind in the event of a fire emergency.
All our inspectors follow the Government issued guidance, delivering in depth inspections that include the following 5 step fire door check:
1. Checking Door Seals and Gaps
One of the first things our inspectors check is the door’s seals and gaps. The gaps around the door must be consistently less than 3mm (+/-1mm) when the door is closed.
The intumescent seals around the door perimeter should also be checked to ensure they are intact and not damaged. These seals will expand if they come into contact with heat to stop fire and smoke moving through cracks, so it is vitally important they are working effectively.

2. Checking Labels, Signage and Certification
Our inspectors will also check the door for a certification mark to prove that it is an actual fire door, and to trace back to its original manufacturer. Every Fire Door should have this mark. If not, there is a chance it may not be a proper fire door and therefore would not offer you the appropriate level of protection.
The door should also be clearly labelled to identify it as a fire door to help people use it correctly.
3. Checking Door Hardware
Next our inspectors check the hinges, latches and door closers to confirm they are functional. All hinges should be fixed securely with no missing screws, to ensure it will perform properly in a fire, and you should also ensure that the door closer shuts the door fully into the frame engaging any locks / latches.
4. Checking the Door Closes Properly and is Shut
Checking that the door closes properly is a crucial element of any fire door inspection, though it may appear to be an obvious thing to check. A fire door which does not shut properly is almost redundant. Our inspectors will perform a thorough check to ensure the door closes firmly and smoothly by itself, without sticking.
No fire doors should be wedged open either, as this not only makes the door completely useless, but also increases the chance of it being damaged.

5. Checking General Condition and Compliance
All of our inspectors also undertake a comprehensive review of the general condition of the door materials and evaluate whether the door is compliant with relevant standards, including British Standards (BS) and Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.
This 5 step fire door check offers a brief insight into just some of the many checks that take place during our detailed Fire Door Inspections.
At UK Fire Consultants, our team of expert Fire Door Inspectors perform comprehensive checks of every fire door, before providing a detailed, customer-friendly report.
